NURSING HOME, CAERLEON
This new extension to the existing Victorian style nursing home was completed in late 2006 and represents Stage I of a further extension.
Stage I includes new dining facilities, together with 7 number bedrooms, laundry, staff rooms and plant room.
The site, in Caerleon, is in an archaeological area that dictated that excavation was not permitted and a raft slab construction was necessary to maintain this archaeological heritage.
The design and construction of the extension is successfully incorporated into and matches the existing building with sash windows complementing the existing appearance of the nursing home.
Careful planning and co-ordination during construction was necessary to maintain all services and activities within existing nursing home.
A complex mechanical and electrical service installation was carried out to comply with the latest 'Care Standard of Wales' requirements.
