ST THOMAS , SWANSEA
St Thomas School was a challenging project that consisted of the conversion of the existing 4 storey Victorian school building into 37 mezzanine apartments together with the new build construction of 5 townhouses within the existing land locked playground. The new build properties were carefully managed to ensure the logistical headache of material deliveries were negated. The external facade of the building was retained in its existing appearance to ensure this iconic building retained the architectural features that gave it it's merit.
The facade was re-pointed and waterproofed. A new structural frame was constructed in the central core of the building which necessited careful planning of the hoisting of the large structural members to the highest level of the building. The complexity of constructing new foundations and drainage within the existing building was a challenge but one that was done with great skill due to the skilled workmen carrying out the task.
